The Internet's Not Dead
The Dead Internet Theory is alive and well but the Internet isn't dead.
The Dead Internet Theory is thriving. 50% of the internet is completely dead. Devoid of human life. It’s written by AI, bots, and programs to only be read, scraped, and summarized by AI, bots, and programs.
Another 45% of the internet isn’t dead, but soulless. This is the internet for when you need to order pants, check if the library is open on Sundays, and book your vacation. In these cases, the internet is a functional tool.
That’s 95% of the internet being either dead or soulless.
But the last 5%. That’s a special place where the magic of the internet still lives. Here there are websites made by people who care. This is where you can discover things organically, browse and surf and peruse, and connect with people interested in the same things as you.
I’m so thankful this part of the internet still exists.
